3 Reasons Miami Heat should be all in on Nikola Vucevic: Depth
Yes, The Miami Heat would likely have to give up something in order to get him, so let’s talk functional depth or players that the Heat actually use. Providing that they don’t have to trade Kelly Olynyk to get the deal done, a deal of this nature would automatically make them that much more lethally deep.
Operate as if KO would stay in this scenario. While Olynyk is a decent starter, good for some as he works hard and always competes though often a target of unwarranted criticism, he would be twice as effective and impactful off the bench.
Be honest with yourself as well here though. With his penchant for pulling it up with the first unit in mind, dropping him to the second unit would mean a really loose trigger from Kelly and tons of deep bombs per game, but don’t focus on that right now. Either way you look at it, he would be a great addition to the Heat’s second unit.
If you take that second unit with Tyler Herro, Precious Achiuwa, Goran Dragic, and everyone else, then add KO to it, you have one of the best and most potent bench units in the league. Kelly may not seem like that big of an addition but think about it, he currently plays with and against starters effectively.
While it would generally make the Heat deeper, which is a good thing, this was a specific example. The more quality depth a team has, no matter the player or players in question, typically the better.
That’s the last reason the Miami Heat should be all-in on Vucevic. He adds a depth to their team that could turn into a secret weapon for them.
The Miami Heat have found their form from last season, a good thing in itself, which means they could make a run as currently constructed. However, an addition such as this one would fortify them to high heavens and these were the reasons why.
