Miami Heat Patience: Are They Still Sold On The Depth Of His Potential?
Fans have critcized Herro in the past for being too overconfident, but this attitude is what’s gotten him to the professional level in the first place:
"“I’m just confident,” said Herro via Miami Herald. “That’s just me trying to prove myself every time I step on the court against whoever I’m playing against. I try to prove I’m the best player on the court every time I step out there.”"
The Heat have had several players in shooting slumps during this recent losing streak. With Herro having the worst of it at 29% shooting over his last three games, many are beginning to believe that he’ll never reach those high expectations Miami had initially set out for him.
However, we’ve seen Herro have those offensive breakthroughs at even the highest of stages, during the lowest of times, and he should undoubtedly prevail. As the Heat prepare themselves for Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, they have plenty of expendable options, with Herro being a one of their most valuable assets for which they could move in return for an All-Star talent.
However, I ultimately expect the Heat to hold onto Herro, as his rookie contract doesn’t expire until the 2022-2023 season. Everyone must realize that for every young NBA player, there will always be growing pains to some extent.
But throughout those pains, Herro has done more than enough to earn an opportunity to continue proving himself as a future Miami Heat franchise cornerstone. He’s still a bucket, although a less efficient one at the moment.
