Miami Heat: 3 Reasons Precious ends up better than Jalen Smith: Offered Role
As mentioned about Smith’s team, the Phoenix Suns, they are currently competing for a title. That’s important, so follow along.
The Role
Once an NBA Team makes the playoffs, their rotations tend to tighten. As that team continues to go on and if so fortunate, that rotation might continue to tighten.
With that, not only have you not seen Smith and though you wouldn’t expect to in this type of scenario for a rookie, it’s worth noting who you do see.
With guys like Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder, Deandre Ayton, Dario Saric when healthy, Mikal Bridges, Torrey Craig, and a few others all, seemingly, ahead of him, able to man either of the two positions he does no matter which way you view it, playing right now for them in the biggest set of games they’ve played, and lastly, perhaps all there beyond just this year with that chemistry and this Championship-possible fate, it’s likely he never cracks that rotation or stable of guys.
On the other side, Precious Achiuwa was not only thrust into minutes he probably wasn’t ready for this season and early, but if he’s there to open camp next season, he’ll have all the opportunity in the world to secure a much larger role. Though development happens all over, such as team workouts, private coaching, and individual workouts, there is no teacher like live-action.
Precious Achiuwa will be afforded more, in meaningful minutes, and alongside his best teammates, which should foster quicker and more growth. It’s actually pretty simple if you think about it.
That, along with the aforementioned two reasons, is why Precious will end up better than Jalen Smith. Even way down at 20, nine picks later, and betwixt the two of those players, the Miami Heat got the better one.
