Miami Heat NBA Draft: If They Can Get High Enough Back Into It, He Should Be The Guy

The Miami Heat love guys that work hard, no matter what the situation is and Bassey might be one of those guys. He is a high-motor guy, based on most of what you see, that doesn’t quit and tries to finish everything.

Be that strongly at the rim or by trying to block the offensive player’s shot, he tries to finish every play where he’s in the vicinity. Bassey isn’t just big though, as he comes with a bit of skill to his game already.

Though he isn’t a sharpshooter, yet, he has shot the three ball well enough and with decent enough form to be encouraged. At just over 30 percent on 2.1 attempts, there is something there to work with.

With his shooting form being an earlier example of this same premise, his athleticism for a big man isn’t of the lumbering type but the very fluid type like Bam, which makes the possibilities to add more skill and finesse to his game that much more easier to see happening. With what he could bring to the table with a little Miami Heat development, he could be an optimal option beside Bam Adebayo or as a stand alone big on the floor, at times.

With his real and overall size at 6’11”, the ability to finish at the rim with power and over the top, with his willingness to be able to try and make it happen on the outside, something that’s terribly important for the critical spacing that Miami has to maintain, and with his potential to be able to guard the rim at a high level, he would almost be the perfect prospect for the Heat at the moment.

One knock you tend to hear a lot about him is his pick and roll coverage, which is extremely important in a pick and roll league like the NBA, however, in the Heat’s team defensive system, how they’ll hope to bring him along with development, and with him probably being more of an at the rim guy early on, that’s something that can be taught. Again, with his athletic ability and fluidity, it shouldn’t be an issue if he’s willing to work on it.

This though, is why if they can get into the 2021 NBA Draft at all and if he is still around when or if they do, Charles Bassey should be a target for the Miami Heat.
