Legends for Miami Heat wing Duncan Robinson to study: Klay Thompson
Klay Thompson made a name for himself doing exactly what Robinson does – shooting threes. Though he can do much more, that’s what he has always been best at.
He has never shot below 40% from three and averages seven attempts per game for his career. That’s the type of volume and efficiency Robinson should strive to replicate.
When Thompson scored 60 points in a single game, he only took 11 dribbles. Once again, this is exactly how Robinson should play.
Erik Spoelstra runs pin-downs, dribble hand-offs, and floppy sets to get Robinson open looks. There’s no one better to learn from than Thompson when it comes to those sets.
In addition to just shooting, Robinson could learn a lot from Thompson on the defensive end of the floor. Thompson is one of the best perimeter defenders in the NBA.
Though he has been out for the last two seasons, Thompson is still respected as an elite defender. A reputation capped off by an All-Defensive Team selection in the 2018-19 season.
If Robinson could learn to be as effective as Thompson is on the defensive end, the Miami Heat would have yet another elite defender to roll out on the perimeter.
When it comes to catch-and-shoot three-point shooting, Thompson is the best of the best. There’s no one better for Robinson to learn from.
