If further reassurance was even needed for a top NBA contender, the Miami Heat are soon to receive it. Now closing in on the highly anticipated regular-season debut of Victor Oladipo, who’s been sidelined for nearly 330 days after a successful right quadriceps surgery, there’s clear excitement for a team with heavy title aspirations.

While the journey has been extended, Oladipo still isn’t cleared for full scrimmages. However, he’s had his hand in participating in reps within the NBA G-League, a critical step forward for NBA stars upon returning from major injury (i.e. Klay Thompson).

While Coach Spoelstra has expressed that the looming return of Oladipo is imminent, it’s been reported that Victor’s return could come during the second week of March.

This will be the second consecutive season where Miami integrates the former two-time All-Star during the final regular-season stretch and if Oladipo is free of any setbacks, the Heat’s projected success would immediately reach a brand-new altitude in a conference that appears as profound as its ever been.

With his return on a fast approach, the Heat have conservatively adjusted Oladipo’s injury timeline after it was once prophesied that he would return during the winter months. Nonetheless, with the obtainment of his Bird Rights, Miami took a Low Risk, High Reward gamble after re-signing Oladipo to a one-year minimum contract.

And you know what? We just might be close to seeing it pay off.

Miami Heat: Victor Oladipo Return Will Go Down As All-Time Moment

Of course, Oladipo’s presence, alone, would serve as an alleviator for Miami, but his greatest value will hold for a team that’s dealt with injuries towards the bulk of their depth. More specifically, it’s been to Jimmy Butler, as well as Bam Adebayo, who is now emerging as a post-All-Star revelation and a Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

WHERE CAN VICTOR OLADIPO MAKE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT UPON HIS RETURN?

After almost a full year without participating in live NBA competition, rust should be expected in his game. That was certainly the case in his four games played after debuting with the Heat last season, where he shot just 16-43 from the field and 4-15 from beyond the arc.

However, it’s never likely for any player coming from a long-term absence to have an efficient shooting display within their first few touches. Although with months of staying conditioned, Victor’s timing and precision off the ball should be near the level he was prior to the quadriceps injury, in which he was one of the most lethal cutters at his position.

To enter this environment, where Kyle Lowry holds the facilitation duties, should make the integration process smoother as well. Another facet where Oladipo will promptly contribute is on the defensive end, as seen last season.

Defensively, many have pictured the idea of Miami adding another All-Defensive first-team type talent into a rotation that’s held the sixth-highest Defensive Rating (108.2) on the season.

While they’ve sustained, being good enough on the season along the perimeter, Miami has been a team in need of another agile threat and especially, one that can create points off of turnovers. As we’ve seen from Oladipo in a Heat jersey before, he does all of the above.

The reinsertion of Oladipo solidifies Miami’s stature as a pure title contender, certainly. More important than all of that though is getting him back on the floor.

Appropriately enough and actually perfect, due to the level of competition they can present, a Monday, March 7th return against the Houston Rockets would be more than ideal for Dipo.

Miami Heat: If Victor Oladipo Is Back To Himself, His Return Solidifies Contention

As stated and against the team that dealt him last March, it would surely be a well-constructed Revenge Game, but also an extremely favorable matchup for Victor, himself. That’s a lot of what makes it “perfect” for his return.

The Rockets have consistently ranked as the worst defensive team all season and have also committed the most turnovers of any franchise. Combining those facts with Oladipo’s abilities, it doesn’t get any more favorable for the returning guard.

To add to that, once the matchup versus Houston approaches on that Monday, the Heat will have wrapped up a tough four-game slate against the most critical matchups in the East. That consisted of the obliteration of Chicago (the Miami Heat’s third win over them this year) and games against the other top contenders in the East—Milwaukee, Brooklyn, and Philadelphia.

OLADIPO’S RETURN WILL BE A REMARKABLE MOMENT FOR THE HEAT AND THEIR FANBASE BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE FRANCHISE’S ENRICHED HISTORY.

It’s felt like ages ago when Miami acquired Oladipo last spring after he was already dealt from Indiana to Houston just a couple of months prior. While the Rockets received a first-rounder, Kelly Olynyk, and Avery Bradley, it was clear they were dead in the midst of a rebuilding state after they traded James Harden to Brooklyn in the same transaction.

It was ultimately decided that Oladipo’s untimely health was a concern. Fast forward to 2022, the Oladipo carrot has dangled over the Miami Heat Faithful for the last several months and one should expect the Heat coaching staff to finally get set to integrate him as the days continue to count themselves.

It’s now only a matter of when rather than if the 29-year-old guard will make his debut before the remaining 22 games finalize. The Miami Heat are now adding that potential key that could unlock the door to another NBA Finals appearance and the fourth championship in franchise history.

If that comes, simultaneously, as Oladipo returns anywhere near the star level he had been in the seasons prior to all of this, the journey he has taken to become a key player on a championship team should be etched as an unforgettable story for the organization.

A star from a few seasons back, Oladipo should and will be well embraced by an organization that has the structure to help fully refurbish him back to his previous form.

Once it’s all a reality, that sound you’ll hear won’t be Gabriel’s Horn or angels harmonizing but Miami Heat public address announcer, Michael Baiamonte, shouting Dipo’s name all throughout the FTX Arena once again.
