The Miami Heat are having one of their best regular seasons since the Big Three Era, in which LeBron James led the team to four NBA Finals appearances with the help of his costars in the Miami Heat’s single greatest player ever and a guy that became a Miami Heat Lifer for his contributions, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Since losing LeBron in the summer of 2014, the Heat have stayed the course and have continued to play basketball at a high level. They made an NBA Finals appearance in 2020, ironically enough, losing to Lebron James.

This year, they have the best record in the East and are prepared to make a deep playoff run. LeBron’s team, on the other hand, has had the opposite story.

As the best player in the NBA, LeBron has obviously had success since leaving Miami, adding two additional champions to his collection. While it seemed like a possibility at the beginning of the season that he could win a fifth championship this year, the odds of that happening are becoming worse every day.

Although James has continued to play terrific basketball, it has not translated into any sort of success for the Los Angeles Lakers.

They are ranked ninth in the West, falling four games below .500.

It is true that the Lakers have been dealing with countless injuries all year. However, when the team plays together, it becomes clear that this is simply not a team that is good enough to win an NBA championship right now.

They are a poor free-throw shooting team that turns over the ball too much. Both are recipes for adding to the loss column.

As frustration builds in LA, people have started to look at LeBron’s future with the Lakers. James is 37 years old.

Even though he is still playing at a high level, his career will soon come to a conclusion. How will he spend the remaining years of his career?

Let’s look at some recent speculation, ideas, and how they relate to a possible LeBron James reunion with the Miami Heat.

Miami Heat: What Recent LeBron James Rumors Could Mean For Future

It’s safe to say this season hasn’t gone as planned for LeBron James and the Lakers. While anything could happen in the playoffs, it’s also pretty safe to say this isn’t the year for LA to win their 18th franchise title.

Trade Speculation

Considering how much of a disaster the first half of the season was for the Lakers, many were surprised that they did not make any trades. Now that their woes have continued after the All-Star Break, some have already looked to the offseason to argue about what the Lakers should do to fix their roster in order to start winning again next season.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith has argued that Anthony Davis should be traded due to his inability to stay healthy and remain on the court. On the other hand, Colin Cowherd of the Herd spurred a lot of controversy by suggesting that the Lakers should trade LeBron James.

What team did he suggest should trade for LeBron? The Miami Heat, of course.

The trade he suggested would send James to Miami in return for Kyle Lowry, Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro, and three first-round picks. There are a few things to be said about this trade.

First, a trio of LeBron James, Jimmy Butler, and Bam Adebayo sounds amazing. There is no doubt that if this trade were to ever happen, the Miami Heat would remain contenders in the East as long as James continues to play at a high level.

Whenever a team has the chance to trade for a top-five player in the NBA, they should usually take that chance. As wonderful as it would be to see LeBron back in a Miami Heat uniform, there are several issues with this trade.

First of all, it is very unrealistic. Second, it doesn’t make sense for either side to make this trade, no matter what the situation is.

The recent success that the Lakers have had is because of LeBron. If they were to trade him away, they would trade away the only chance they have to win a championship in the near future.

Miami Heat and Lakers champion, NBA legend, and NBA analyst, Shaquille O’Neal, supports this viewpoint and goes as far as to say that the Lakers will never win again if they trade LeBron. Simultaneously, the Heat are having success with their young players and their depth.

It wouldn’t make too much sense for them to trade that away for an aging star, even if it is LeBron James. For now, a LeBron James trade seems out of the picture.

Is there another way LeBron James could return to the Miami Heat? Let’s look at another rumor that has recently surfaced.

Miami Heat: At The Right Price, Taking Bronny Late Wouldn’t Be A Terrible Idea

LeBron James entered the league at eighteen years old. What has been so fascinating about his career is his longevity and his ability to sustain that ability throughout his career.

Playing With His Son

Now, he has an opportunity to still be in the league when his oldest son is drafted into the NBA. LeBron James Jr. or “Bronny”, is eligible to enter the NBA draft in 2024.

That means King James will have the opportunity to do something that no NBA player has done before—play at the same time as their son. LeBron might not just be stopping there.

Although he has recently walked back on his comments, LeBron has said,

"“My last year will be played with my son,” LeBron told the outlet. “Wherever Bronny is at, that’s where I’ll be. I would do whatever it takes to play with my son for one year. It’s not about the money at that point.”"

This could just simply be a comment made by James in an attempt to boost his son’s draft stock. Or he could be telling the truth.

Either way, it provides any team with the opportunity to add LeBron James to their team in 2024, as long as they draft Bronny James. This makes things very interesting.

Considering the way LeBron has looked in year 19 of his career, he could still be playing at a high level in 2024. Drafting Bronny in order to sign LeBron could be a masterful strategy for teams that want to contend for a title.

LeBron has made 10 NBA Finals appearances. Other than this season, having him on your team instantly meant that your team is a title contender.

What would happen if the Miami Heat were to draft Bronny and LeBron was telling the truth about wanting to play with his son? LeBron said that money would not matter to him.

In theory, the Heat could keep their roster as constructed while adding James at a discount. Is this something the Heat should consider doing?

It might be too early to tell. When the 2024 NBA draft is closer, Miami can decide if they think LeBron’s comment is a realistic possibility or if they are better off drafting a better prospect.

Will we ever see LeBron in a Miami Heat uniform again? There is still a possibility.

One can hope that the King returns to Miami and helps deliver the city more championships. Either way, Pat Riley will make sure that the Heat remain a competitive and winning culture, regardless.

You can be certain of that.
