So, what if the Miami Heat just end up having to run it back?

The Miami Heat are in a very dicey scenario at the current moment. Hard at work to seek out a deal for another high-impact player, one can only assume, such as Kevin Durant and Donovan Mitchell, who have both been mentioned ad nauseam.

Yes, it would be wonderful to have another high-level guy in the fold, as that would not only add some excitement to an anxiety-inducingly sluggish Miami Heat offseason, but it would have the potential to mean an improvement in their chances of a title next season.

Now, whether any or all of the guys they’ve been linked to can have that type of impact on the team is one thing, depending on who the team would have to relinquish to land them, their fit, and actual value to Heat, but trying is the name of the game.

The Miami Heat don’t tank. They are always trying to win.

That’s something you can be sure of.

Miami Heat: So, What If They Just End Up Having To Run It Back?

However, say they strike out on a blockbuster move though. Say if they aren’t so fortunate as to be able to land a Durant, a Mitchell, or even a guy like Collin Sexton if that interest is real.

What if they have to—run it back?

Well, those are blasphemous words around the circles of Miami Heat supporters right now, but it might eventually be the reality that exists though.

And to be frank about things on that occasion, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.

In order to get one of the better guys on the market, the Miami Heat will have to send out something massive. The Nets want one of the biggest returns in NBA trade history, reportedly, while the Jazz are seeking the “Paul George Package” that Oklahoma City got from the LA Clippers.

They are both rather hefty prices to pay.

Miami Heat: Remember, They Were One Game Away From NBA Finals Last Year

While this Heat team could certainly use some more offensive explosion, based on last season and not accounting for development, leaps, or lights coming on for any particular current guys on the roster, they were one game away from the NBA Finals last season.

Heck and with a fully healthy Kyle Lowry and Tyler Herro, perhaps with just one fully healthy of the two, things may have been different. You can’t assume, but there has to be some merit given to the circumstances.

With all that being said, that would leave P.J. Tucker as the only real hole to fill.

Yes, it’s a massive hole to fill with all he did for Miami last season, but with Haywood Highsmith’s showings on the summer circuit, the addition of another versatile two-way contract guy like Darius Days, and perhaps another smaller move to acquire more power forward depth, the Miami Heat could be more than alright in that spot too.

Heck, bringing Markieff Morris back to help fill out depth, in the event that they do nothing else of note, wouldn’t even be the worst thing. They could deploy the aforementioned trio and whatever else they are able to add to get quality production from the spot.

In any situation though, all that has been to say this. Running it back wouldn’t be the most ideal thing in the world, but it wouldn’t be the absolute worst thing in the world for this group either.
