2. Tyler Herro
Boy Wonder makes his waited appearance at number two. He’s only been here for four years, but he’s made them count.
Herro may be the most confident player on this list. He never shies away from any moments and this helps him as a shooter. He won’t go through a slump and think “Maybe I shouldn’t shoot this one.” If he’s open he’s shooting it. He may shoot it even if he’s not open. The numbers say this works in his favor.
Herro is a career 38% 3-point shooter while taking six and a half 3s a game. In 2023, he shot 38% on eight 3PA. He’s getting close to shooting ten 3s a game and nothing suggests that his efficiency will go down. He isn’t getting wide-open 3-point attempts all game.
As one of the Heat’s primary ball handlers, Herro routinely faces traps and double teams, he gets hit hard coming off screens, and he’s high on the Heat’s scouting report. When you add these things up, he is forced into taking difficult shots.
Herro has added shooting counters to offset what he’s seeing from defenses. Leaning 3s, step-back 3s, catch-and-shoot 3s, and movement 3s are all in Herro’s game as he’s developed into an extremely versatile shooter.
He’s one of five players to make 200 3s in a season in Miami. Still only 23 years old, I don’t believe Herro has scratched the surface of where he can get as a shooter. He’s prone to getting inferno hot, making 19 3s in a two-game stretch during his best season to date late year.
