When the Heat signed Shawne Williams before training camp, I certainly had my doubts. After an up-and-down career, the journey man has found his home with the Heat.

After a poor performance in the Heat’s first game, where he shot 11% from the field, Williams has played seven consecutive outstanding games. In the last seven games, Williams is averaging 11.8 points and 4.1 rebounds, and shooting 56% from deep.

He has been the Heat’s most surprising player, making it a hard decision for Spoelstra to replace him with Josh McRoberts. Spoelstra has developed strong faith in Williams, giving him the “neon green light” on any shot, even contested.

Via Joseph Goodman:

"“He’s in this role right now, and we’ll see where he goes from here, but he’s versatile and he brings a toughness, so the things that he brings I like,” coach Erik Spoelstra said when asked about the similarities between Williams and Battier. “But he’s that type of shooter. I will never say anything even if he’s contested and has someone draped all over him. He has the absolute neon green light.”"

Whether Williams is able to retain his starting job or not, the Heat have overwhelming front court depth, something they haven’t had in a while.
