NBA Scouting Combine: 6 Players the Miami Heat Have to Watch
By Wes Goldberg
Apr 4, 2015; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Wisconsin Badgers forward Sam Dekker (15) dribbles while guarded by Kentucky Wildcats guard Andrew Harrison (5) during the first half of the 2015 NCAA Men
Sam Dekker, SF, Wisconsin
Measures: 6-foot-9, 6-foot-10 wingspan, 229 pounds
Strengths:
- Polished, versatile offensive player
- Handles the ball well
- Good size and frame
- Attacks defenders one-on-one
- Versatile defender capable of defending smaller or bigger guys
Weaknesses
- Inconsistent shooter
- Didn’t demonstrate great passing ability
- Ceiling could be as a role player
Pro projection: Sam Dekker has all the tools to be an outstanding role player in the mold of Mike Dunleavy Jr. He moves intelligently and won’t be a weakness anywhere on the court, but is one of those “doesn’t do anything great, but does everything well” guys. Where the Heat likely pick at no. 10 may be a reach, especially if guys with star potential are on the board.
