A win to start the year: Hassan Whiteside led the Heat in a blowout win over the Mavs Friday night, going for 25 points and 19 rebounds. It was an overall very strong performance by Miami, who ended Dallas’ four-game win streak.

D is for Development: Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that rookie Josh Richardson will spend plenty of time with the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the D-League this season. Erik Spoelstra won’t leave him there, though, so that he still feels like he’s a part of the team.
Birdman’s deal: Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post looks into what’s going on with Miami’s backup centers Amar’e Stoudemire and Chris Andersen. The two haven’t played much this season, despite what was expected to be a deep position for the Heat.
