Memphis Grizzlies

The Memphis Grizzlies have a very interesting scenario on their hands, and it is sort of like the Miami Heat’s scenario. They have Mike Conley on the books for the next 2 seasons at around $30 million per, but they also have Jonas Valanciunas who has a player option to decide on for this upcoming season at around $17.6 million dollars.

If Valanciunas were to ever opt out of that contract and guaranteed money, which is an extremely unlikely circumstance, the Grizzlies could be in the market to reunite with their one time player in Hassan Whiteside. Not that they have an extreme interest in his particular talent, but they would be looking at his expiring contract as the asset that it is, while also being able to get off the remaining year of Mike Conley‘s contract.

For the Miami Heat here, I am not sure if this is the type of deal you want to make because Conley has never really been an outright game-changer in most eyes, including the pair owned by the author. The money lines up close enough however to make this trade happen, and with Jarren Jackson Jr. sitting there as seemingly a foundational piece of the future, the Grizzlies will probably consider everything.

These are just a few of the potential teams that could help facilitate such a move. There will probably be a few more to emerge as we move deeper into the offseason and as next season’s trade deadline approaches. As we all know, expiring deals are worth their weight in gold to NBA Franchises, and the Heat have a couple of multi-karat nuggets to work with.
