Davon Reed

Davon Reed, the 32nd overall pick in the 2017 draft, has familiar ties to the city of Miami. Having played for the Miami Hurricanes in college, Reed was taken with the second pick in the second round (similarly to KZ Okpala) of 2017’s draft by the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns faced a roster crunch last year when they brought in Jamal Crawford, so they let Reed go, only for him to be picked up on a two-way deal by the Pacers. Now, the 3-point specialist will attempt to show out and earn another two-way contract, with the hopes of cracking the 15-man Heat roster when the Heat get cap space to fill out its entire roster next year.

Reed finished with six points, a rebound and an assist in the Heat’s public scrimmage. If he makes the team, Reed would be the fourth Miami Hurricane ever to join the Miami Heat.

Chris Silva

Chris Silva went undrafted in the 2019 NBA Draft out of the University of South Carolina but ended up joining the Miami Heat for the 2019 Summer League. Silva started every game he played in for the Heat, averaging seven points per game, 5.7 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 0.7 blocks while posting a +56 across six games. He also averaged eleven points and five rebounds in the California Classic alone.

Interestingly enough, Silva played the most out of any of the aforementioned players in the Red, White and Pink Game, finishing with 13 points, 12 rebounds (four of which were offensive), five assists, and one steal with no turnovers. Silva certainly made a case for himself in the game, and it will be interesting to see how much playing time he gets in the preseason with Kelly Olynyk and James Johnson likely being held out to begin with.
