Potential call up to an NBA two-way contract?

Two-way forward Chris Silva has not been sent down a single time from the Heat to the Skyforce, and according to Albert Nahmad (@AlbertNahmad), the Heat can stretch his 45 days of service through January so that they do not have to send him down at all. Why through January? Because starting on January 5, 2020, the Heat will be able to add a fifteenth player to the roster on a ten-day contract (Albert Nahmad), and on January 14, 2020, can add a player with zero to two years of NBA service on a multi-year or rest-of-season contract at the minimum.

Considering the Heat have only had 14 players on its standard roster since the beginning of the season, and the injury bug is always ample to strike, the Heat will almost definitely convert Silva’s contract into a standard league contract at this time, as they have played him in over 20 games already as a rookie, and seem to be fond of the 6’9” Gabon native.

Converting Silva to a standard deal means the Heat will open up a two-way contract space, and with that the Heat will likely look to add a player from their own developmental farm to that space. Contenders for this spot include Mulder, Alexander, Martin or another player entirely, but a likely player for this spot is two-year NBA veteran Davon Reed.

Reed averages 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the Force, on 32.1% shooting from deep. Despite having less stellar numbers than the likes of Mulder, Alexander and Martin, Reed seemed to be the favorite for the other two-way spot at the beginning of the season, after impressing in preseason, but Macon won out the job. Now, Reed could be looking at his third pro team in three years since being taken with the 32nd overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft by the Phoenix Suns.
