Could his allegiance to Luka Doncic and their mutual home country of Slovenia drive Goran Dragic out West to the Dallas Mavericks?

Goran Dragic and Luka Doncic‘s friendship off the court is no secret. Both players hail from Slovenia, a country out in Central Europe. Dragic was the Slovenian Rookie of the Year back in 2005, and lead the club to a championship in 2008.

And more recently, the point guard was named FIBA EuroBasket MVP as a member of the Slovenian national team 2017. Doncic and Dragic have played side by side overseas before, but this offseason could provide them a chance to play together in the NBA.

The Dallas Mavericks’ point guard situation is largely dim.

Delon Wright was their free agency acquisition of the summer last year, and has largely underwhelmed in his first season with the team. To make matters worse, their hidden gem point guard Jalen Brunson underwent season ending shoulder surgery back in March.

If the Dallas Mavericks want to take advantage of the window now presented behind their young duo of Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis, then adding a reliable point guard to their secondary should be top priority this offseason. Who better than Goran Dragic, friend of their franchise star?

The Miami Heat and Goran Dragic would likely want to continue a partnership that has otherwise proved beneficial for both parties. But basketball is a business that doesn’t always go to plan.
