Jalen Smith could be the steal pick of the first-round. With eyes on a two-way forward, the Miami Heat should strongly consider the Maryland product.

When it comes to two-way players, few fit that description more than Jalen Smith. A forward out of the University of Maryland, the 20-year old prospect may have the most upside in his class.

Smith posted averages of 15.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per game this year.

The forward can hit 3-point shots almost as well as he defends the rim, which is a rare quality to say the least. His ceiling suggests that he could be the steal of the first-round.

Miami’s four-spot is currently occupied by All-Star big man Bam Adebayo.

However, his ceiling is more likely as a center. This makes finding their power forward of the future somewhat of a priority within the coming drafts and/or offseasons. Smith would fit well next to Adebayo. They can both space the floor and defend the rim respectively.

Bam’s backup is currently Kelly Olynyk, who has a $12.3 player option for the 2020-2021 season. Even if he opts in, his role will be up for grabs come the 2021-2022 season.

If the Miami Heat are looking for a Olynyk’s replacement, or a potential cornerstone power forward, Jalen Smith is as safe a draft selection as there is in this year’s draft class.
