Could point guard Isaiah Thomas make his long-awaited comeback in a postseason bout with the Miami Heat?
Isaiah Thomas
From MVP candidate to unemployed, that’s the Isaiah Thomas story.
A freak hip injury ended his reign as the NBA’s “King of the Fourth Quarter” prematurely back in the 2017 playoffs. Thomas hasn’t been the same since. He’s had short sprints with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Los Angeles Lakers, and most recently the Washington Wizards.
Thomas’s time in DC is the best he’s looked since losing the very mobility that made him so dangerous for opposing defenses. He averaged 12.2 points, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 rebounds in 40 games as the starting point guard for the Wizards.
The Heat’s point guard depth can be labeled as mostly encouraging. Miami’s rolling Kendrick Nunn out as their starter and backing him up with veteran Goran Dragic. Combined the two are posting a combined 32.7 points, 8.5 assists, and 5.8 rebounds nightly.
Still, if Pat Riley and the Miami Heat are looking to add an extra scoring punch behind more depth at the point guard position Isaiah Thomas is worth taking a flyer on.
