Miami Heat Free Agency: Let’s look at a few options at every position
By Sam Allen
The Miami Heat’s need for a big beside Bam Adebayo was no more present than in the NBA Finals. Here are some options.
Center
Marc Gasol
Last Season: 7.5 PPG, 3.3 APG, 6.3 RPG, 42.7 FG%, 38.5 3P%, 73.5 FT%
Assuming Marc Gasol doesn’t want to end his career in Spain, he would be a great addition to Miami coming off the bench in the backup center spot. He’s still a capable defender, that can rebound and shoot the three.
His offense really took a hit last year, but Miami doesn’t need him to score 12 to 15 points a game. If he can just make open shots, play good defense, and set other guys up, he’ll be right at home and beloved by the fans in Miami.
Meyers Leonard
Last Season: 6.1 PPG, 1.1 APG, 5.1 RPG, 50.9 FG%, 41.4 3P%, 64.3 FT%
There’re no moral victories in sports, but if there were, Meyers Leonard would have a very full trophy case. A beloved member of the bench mob, Leonard was easily the most enthusiastic player the entire season.
Even though he didn’t get much run in the playoffs, Meyers continued to cheer his team on, and that’s something NBA teams could use more of. Even if Pat Riley just wants to sign Leonard to be a cheerleader, I’m here for it.
Aron Baynes
Last Season: 11.5 PPG, 1.6 APG, 5.6 RPG, 48 FG%, 35.1 3P%, 74.7 FT%
Baynes had a really fun season for Phoenix last year. For those that don’t remember, he went on a legit run during November and parts of December, which feel like two years ago instead of twelve months ago.
Aron could upgrade this bench unit instantly with his rebounding ability and his ferociousness down low. Also, a dude with elite facial hair, if Baynes were to make it to Miami, he has to teach Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro how to grow a sweet stache.
The Miami Heat have some decisions to make and not that long to make them. Taking a look at some… or all of the names above might make those choices just a bit easier for the folks in charge.
