The Miami Heat have a few deals coming off the books. They are valuable to them on the trade market.

3. Expiring Contracts

When you look at the Miami Heat’s payroll, one of the first things you notice is how they have set themselves up for next season. We all know by now that this is a play or a set up to make a play at Giannis Antetokounmpo in the next offseason.

However, with the fact that a lot of the deals are expiring or could have mechanisms triggered that makes them expiring, that gives the Miami Heat a lot of leverage right now as far as making deals.

Andre Iguodala, Kelly Olynyk, Bam Adebayo, Kendrick Nunn, Duncan Robinson, Tyler Herro, and Chris Silva could all be triggered into “expiring” deals if that’s the way the Miami Heat wanted it. Derrick Jones Jr, Jae Crowder, and Goran Dragic don’t have deals yet, but let’s say they all get one-year deals or other deals that could be triggered into becoming expiring as well.

Now, we all know that Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro certainly aren’t going anywhere, while we would assume the same to be the case for Duncan Robinson. Jae Crowder and Goran Dragic are such huge parts of this team that you throw them out as well, but then you are left with a ton to play with.

Kelly Olynyk and Andre Iguodala were huge parts of the Miami Heat’s run last season, so I would like to see something added without giving them up, however, the option is there if the Miami Heat want to use it.

Having those expiring deals mean you can take on matching salary, as long as they match this year, giving the team that trades you an impact guy a way to have free cap next season. Now, of course, that means you take on the cap beyond this season if there is any, but that’s something that will be worked out.

That’s why the Miami Heat’s expiring contracts rank number three here.
