The Miami Heat own the 20th pick in this upcoming draft. They likely won’t use it though.

2. The 20th NBA Draft Pick

The Miami Heat have the 20th pick in this upcoming draft. Hooray!

Well, not so much. This Miami Heat team is one that is right on the precipice of doing something special.

That means that they would be better served to try and turn that pick into another impact guy. While that is the truth in general, we can be almost certain that the man making the call feels that way too.

Pat Riley has noted how he doesn’t like draft picks. What that means is this.

When you have a high draft pick or high draft picks year after year, that means that you aren’t winning a lot regularly. That can only mean that you aren’t competing for titles.

Pat Riley is in the business of winning and winning big. That means competing for the hardware season in and season out.

You also tend not to count on a roster full of first to third-year guys to win you a title. That’s just not how it happens in pro sports.

Well, at least not professional basketball or football. The MLB is a bit different, as seasoned guys can be called rookies.

That’s neither here nor there though.

The Miami Heat would get more mmph out of that pick by trading it as apart of a package, as opposed to taking a guy in this draft. There are some interesting pieces out there, but with the greater opinion of the masses tending to think this is a very weak draft, none of them are enticing enough to get them off of this thinking.

That’s why the 20th overall pick is their second most valuable asset.
