The Miami Heat are apparently looking to get off of their 20th pick in this upcoming NBA Draft. Will they be able to put a deal together before that night?
The Miami Heat are in win-now mode. That’s something to put a pin in.
You also then want to throw in the fact that Pat Riley has been documented in the past as saying that he doesn’t really like draft picks. Listen, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t appreciate young talent or appreciate the process of adding that talent to the team, it’s just what it all ultimately stands for.
If you are drafting high every year, that means that you aren’t competing for titles. Subsequently and on the other side, most of the time, you aren’t going to find guys ready to contribute to a title team in the draft.
There is that rare rookie who can come in and be an impact guy immediately, one way or another, but that is rare. Who are we to speak though, as Tyler Herro did just that this past season.
Forget about him though. He’s the anomaly.
The Miami Heat have the 20th pick in this upcoming NBA Draft. That doesn’t mean that they will use it though.
Just because Riles doesn’t like to draft high, that doesn’t mean he can’t. Heck, not only can he draft period, but he can do the most with the least.
Getting Herro and Bam Adebayo at 13 and 14, respectively, in their respective drafts were steals. You can’t doubt that.
Let’s look at this upcoming draft though. We laid out why the Miami Heat will probably trade the pick, but we have been hypothesizing that they would actually move it since before the official order was announced.
For a refresher and to nail it home, it would simply be of more value to them as an asset in a deal for an impact guy right now. They are so close to a title and who knows if that pick helps net the missing piece.
Well, we now have support to back up our claims. According to Jonathan Givony of ESPN, the Miami Heat have been more active than any team at attempting to move their pick.
It fits the profile and we hope that they can get it done. That means that they would be landing a guy that would surely fill in a gap that may have helped cost them a title this past season.
They could still take a guy come draft night, we just doubt it plays out that way. We shall see, as the rumors are sure to keep on swirling.
We are in the midst of the good part of the offseason. With the season right around the corner, it’ll be nonstop action from here on out.
