The Atlanta Hawks may not be ready to compete for a title just yet, but they are getting closer. Let’s take a look at their Free Agency haul.
Atlanta Hawks
My goodness, what an offseason for the Atlanta Hawks, who will basically have a brand-new team outside of Trae Young. Normally, I’m hesitant to give praise to teams who try to accelerate their competitive window, but the Hawks did a really nice job.
Even before the possible addition of Bogdan Bogdanovic, which we’ll get to in a second, bringing in Rajon Rondo, Kris Dunn, and Danilo Gallinari already would have put them on this list. Rondo will be a great mentor for Trae Young and the rest of Atlanta’s roster.
Kris Dunn will provide much-needed defense at the guard position and at just $5 million a year, Dunn looks like a steal. If you want to argue the Gallinari contract is risky, I won’t argue.
The highest amount ever given to a 30+-year-old who has never been an All-Star, the Danilo contract is definitely aggressive. The talent has never been the question for Gallinari, it’s the injury history.
If he can stay healthy, I look for him to possibly be an All-Star in the East. If he’s in and out of the lineup, that could hurt Atlanta’s chances at making the playoffs though and that’s definitely something to concern yourself with.
If Sacramento doesn’t decide to match Atlanta’s offer sheet for Bogdan Bogdanovic, and as of November 23rd at about 11 AM CST, they haven’t, then this Atlanta team is a lock for the playoffs! Bogdanovic would be a great counter punch to Trae Young for the Hawks.
The Miami Heat are still the toast of the East though, so don’t let this go to your head Hawks fans. They did have a nice Free Agency period though, that is for certain.
All of the teams mentioned here did, now, we must see if it translates into winning. We know that it will for the first team we mentioned though.
Yep! Of course, we do!
