The Miami Heat have maintained flexibility for next offseason. Could Pat Riley finally get his whale?

Pat Riley’s Whale

Let’s be clear, Jimmy Butler was a whale. But he wasn’t it.

Pat Riley was determined to turn this team into a competitor and he has done that. He now sees that they are so close and has to be thinking about doing whatever it takes to make sure they get the hardware.

Well, he’s built it all up to this point with that idea in mind it seems. Even with Bam Adebayo‘s recent extension and well deserved, might I add, the Miami Heat will still have the cap next season to pay a max salaried player.

They’ve signed deals and organized the payroll to give them that ability, while also keeping their core guys intact. They’ll have to work out a few things when it comes to Duncan Robinson after the season but I am sure they will get that done.

He might be the best shooter in the league. They won’t let him leave.

That’s not the point right now though. The point is that they have operated with the thought of having flexibility in mind next offseason.

That flexibility could help them land Giannis Antetokounmpo.
