Miami Heat Reasons To Keep Kendrick Nunn Around: He can Thrive Beside Goran Dragic
The Miami Heat have one of the best sixth men in the entire league in Goran Dragic. Although the league didn’t recognize him for it last season, he was absolutely one of, if not the best, players off the pine last year.
Well, with Kendrick Nunn playing the way he is, they could be one of the best bench duos in the league. What has specifically pushed this notion to the forefront has been Kendrick Nunn’s elevated level of playmaking.
To be frank, he looks like a point guard at times now. He is focusing just as much on creating for his teammates as he is for himself.
That is something that I couldn’t say with confidence last season. Last year, when he got the ball, he tried to score the ball.
That was his job and that was fine, most of the time. However, there were those times where the better play was to make a play for someone else or you would have loved to seen that from him, but he didn’t.
Well, this year is a different story. Not only is he making the right passes, but he is actually creating plays for others and being a playmaker.
He went from being a guy that passed as a way to get out of a tricky situation to being a full own point guard impersonator. He is creating leverage with his handle and positioning, setting up defenders for passing lanes, and even directing teammates where to be to get them in their spots.
Kendrick Nunn is doing it all right now. These are the reasons you have to keep him around.
With his contract and if he’s playing like this, the major value is having him on your roster. Pat Riley is a smart, creative, and guy that is good at what he does.
He can figure something out without moving Nunn. We’ve waited this long, no need to shoot yourself in the foot along the way to force it now.
This is why, even in a trade scenario, the Miami Heat should be looking to keep Kendrick Nunn around.
