Free agents the Miami Heat should avoid: Dennis Schroder
Dennis Schroder played well for the Thunder a couple of years ago and wasn’t even that bad for the Lakers last year. However, for the price he is expecting, the Miami Heat should stay far, far away.
Let’s say that Kyle Lowry, Lonzo Ball, and Mike Conley decide to sign elsewhere. At that point, the Miami Heat would be in the market for a starting point guard.
On paper, Schroder could be the perfect fit. He’s a great shooter, can great his own shot, and is a solid playmaker as well.
However, he is supposedly asking for a massive contract this offseason. Reports say that he wants well over $20 million a season.
At that point, the Miami Heat should target multiple depth pieces instead of spending so much on Schroder. He’s a great player, but prioritizing depth over him is a no-brainer.
If the Heat were to land Lowry, Ball, or Conley, it would be a different scenario because they are either All-Star caliber players or have the potential to be one. At this point in his career, Schroder just hasn’t been that yet.
Paying him over $20 million would be a waste of money that could be spent elsewhere, especially on a Heat team that lacks depth. They should stay far away from Schroder this summer unless his price goes down.
