Miami Heat: Making The Case For Pursuing Spencer Dinwiddie

If the Miami Heat were able to come to a contract agreement with Spencer Dinwiddie, it wouldn’t necessarily put them over the top, but they would add a key piece to a championship-level team. As risky as adding him to the Heat could be, the payoff could be monumental.

First, Dinwiddie is a great offensive player, so he would fill a hole that the Miami Heat were missing this past season. He has recently shown promising signs as a scorer, averaging 20.6 points per game during the 2019-2020 season.

He is also a pretty good playmaker. If he recovers from his ACL injury with no setbacks, he could continue to improve in all areas of the game.

With Dinwiddie, a great deal of pressure would be taken off Jimmy Butler on offense. The less pressure Butler has to do it all on both ends of the floor, the more likely he is to make the right decisions in terms of when to score or find open teammates.

One of the most significant effects of a Heat-Dinwiddie agreement is that it takes him away from the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets won 66.7% of their games last season, despite the fact that they were missing Dinwiddie and that their three best players, Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving only played eight regular season games together.

The Nets are already favored to win the NBA championship for the 2021-2022 season, so taking away any of their pieces would help to weaken them.

The Miami Heat seem to be treating Spencer Dinwiddie the way they should this offseason. They are looking for other players first, but they might look to Dinwiddie if they are unable to get anyone better.

However, the Heat need to play their cards right this offseason. If they don’t, they could end up getting no one.
