Miami Heat: 4 Ways NBA Free Agency Directly Set Up Contention- No Games
The Miami Heat are really good at what they do from a coaching and talent gathering perspective. Sometimes, that bites them though, as they think they can get away with stuff.
They didn’t let that get in the way here though. They jumped right in where they needed to and got things done.
Took Care Of Toughness And Rebounding From Start
Until the Miami Heat brought in the guys that they did during the midst of last season, Trevor Ariza and Dewayne Dedmon mainly, they were lacking in several departments. They were lacking in general toughness and the physical stuff, especially rebounding and a paint presence near the rim, as Bam Adebayo is all over the floor these days.
Though only a short time for Dedmon, he and Ariza helped get them that. They brought Dedmon back this season, while adding Lowry and P.J. Tucker.
That should be enough toughness to go around when you think about the rest of the crew. Jimmy Butler, Udonis Haslem, and the rest of the team should be excited.
Didn’t Wait Around To Fill Holes Like Last Season
After losing guys from the NBA Bubble run, most notably Jae Crowder, the Miami Heat failed to reload. Similar to the third reason mentioned above but slightly different, they didn’t do that this offseason either.
They lost Trevor Ariza, but knew they had another tough, versatile, and defensive wing that they could play as a four in the waiting with Tucker. They didn’t want to be caught lacking again next season, as they were to open this past season.
They approached things well this offseason and you can tell they meant it. They set themselves directly on the path to contention with these moves and these were the four reasons why.
