What the PJ Tucker signing means for the Miami Heat: An even better defense than last year
It’s hard to imagine the Miami Heat getting any better on the defensive side of the ball, However, this move does exactly that.
It’s no secret that Tucker is one of the best defenders in the NBA. He put that fact on full display in the playoffs, locking up some of the league’s best players.
Kevin Durant may have been great in the series vs Milwaukee, but Tucker made sure to make his life as hard as possible. Sometimes it’s not about stopping the superstars, it’s just about wearing them down.
Butler and Adebayo are already two of the best defenders in the NBA, and now they have a power forward who can defend as well. Add in Kyle Lowry at point guard and the Heat are the best defensive team in the NBA.
Having Tucker on the defensive end will also help take some of the responsibilities off of the rest of the team. Butler and Adebayo won’t have to worry about things as much on defense, even though they are amazing on that end of the floor, anyway.
Tucker’s offensive game is mainly just standing in the corner and moving around the three-point line, which is perfect for Miami. What’s even better is that this will allow him to expend most of his energy on defense.
He can guard opposing teams’ best players if he needs to, allowing other players to not worry as much. The Miami Heat struck gold with this signing.
