The best move the Miami Heat made this offseason: Re-signing Duncan Robinson
Re-signing Duncan Robinson is the best move the Miami Heat made this offseason. It was one they desperately needed to get done and they did it.
Robinson inked a five-year, $90 million deal to stay in South Beach. The contract averages out to him making around $18 million per season.
Some people may see that amount of money as an overpay for a guy that mainly just shoots the ball. However, it is actually great value for someone like Robinson.
Just last offseason, Joe Harris and Davis Bertans signed very similar contracts to this one. The main skill they bring to the table? Shooting.
However, there is one key difference between those two and Robinson. Though they are around the same age, Robinson is only going to be in his fourth NBA season.
Due to this, there is still a ton of room for him to grow as a player. He even stated that he wants to work on two things this offseason – his body and finding a go-to two-point shot.
If Robinson can manage to improve in those two areas, he’ll be an even more dangerous player. It would force teams to guard him everywhere instead of just on the three-point line.
He’ll be around for five more years and can grow alongside Miami’s core. He’s just entering his prime and will still only be 32 years old when his contract is up.
In addition to all that, Robinson’s shooting is too important to Miami’s game plan for them to lose him. Re-signing him was a crucial part of their offseason, and that’s why it was the best move they made.
