Free agents fans should be glad the Miami Heat didn’t sign: Spencer Dinwiddie

Spencer Dinwiddie is a great NBA player who, honestly, could have All-Star upside if put in the right situation. However, he would not have been a good fit in Miami.

As mentioned, the main thing Miami needed to add this offseason was shooting. They were one of the worst teams in the league last year in terms of three-point percentage.

Though Dinwiddie is a solid point guard, the one flaw in his game is that he’s not a great three-point shooter. Adding another non-shooter to Miami’s starting lineup would have ended poorly.

He was hurt for most of last year, but in the 2019-20 season, Dinwiddie shot 30.8% from three-point range. He shoots 28.6% from deep for his career thus far.

If the Miami Heat signed him, it would have created a starting lineup of Dinwiddie, Duncan Robinson, Jimmy Butler, PJ Tucker, and Bam Adebayo. There would have been three players in the lineup who can’t shoot.

Miami managed to land Kyle Lowry instead, who is a great three-point shooter. He will be a much better fit with the current core of Miami.

As good as Dinwiddie is, Miami just wasn’t the right fit for him. He needs a team around him that can shoot, and the Miami Heat needed to add shooters.
