Miami Heat players that need to step up this season: Bam Adebayo

The Heat ask Bam Adebayo to do so much for the team, and he delivers nearly every game. He is emerging as one of the best rim defenders in the NBA and is a versatile big man that can switch onto smaller defenders and disrupt their shot.

Once again, Miami will depend on Bam’s improvement as a player. In order to take the next step in his game, Bam needs to work on his offensive consistency.

For Bam, efficiency isn’t the question here. Last year he shot 57% from the field. The problem also isn’t with his lack of a three-point shot. Miami doesn’t need Bam to shoot from deep to win games (although, that would help).

The problem is that Bam doesn’t take enough shots. Last season, he averaged under 13 field goals attempts per game. In order for Adebayo to be a true offensive threat, he needs to take more shots.

With the addition of Lowry this year, the offense should be able to flow smoothly through his facilitating ability. Bam should get more open looks and, even when he is not wide open, Lowry should be able to feed him some crafty inside passes. Lowry’s leadership might also help Bam to become more aggressive with the ball.

If Adebayo becomes a true force in the paint and scores over 20 points a game, he will greatly boost the Miami Heat in the journey for their fourth title in franchise history.
