Potential trade targets the Miami Heat should monitor: Lonnie Walker IV

This may not be a name some Miami Heat fans know, but it could be one worth knowing. Lonnie Walker IV could help the Heat at a position of need right now and in the future.

Walker has played in San Antonio for the first three years of his career. He will be entering the final year of his rookie deal this year, yet the Spurs have yet to extend him.

If they don’t see a future with him, it may be worth inquiring about. The Heat could add wing depth for fairly cheap, while also adding a long-term building block.

Through his first three seasons, Walker has averaged eight points per game, but he had a breakout season last year. He’s a solid all-around player who has some solid potential.

Last year, Walker averaged 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game. He shot 42.0% from the field and 35.5% from three-point range.

He is only set to make around $4.5 million this year. That sort of money is a very acquirable deal, even for a team that lacks assets as the Heat do.

The Spurs are a very weird organization in the sense that they don’t seem to have a real direction. Therefore, it’s hard to gauge what kind of package they would want in return for Walker.

Regardless, if there is any chance that he is available, the Miami Heat should get involved. The 22-year-old wing could end up being a great piece for Miami.
