The Miami Heat had a great offseason. However, they still can’t seem to stay out of the rumor mill.

Among the reports that Kevin Love won’t be seeking a buyout from the Cleveland Cavaliers and among the long-standing, it seems, suspicion of Miami Heat interest, there is but one question at the foundation of it all. Well, why is he still there and not seeking a buyout?

The world would like to know. Those associated with the Miami Heat might be wondering too.

In a land of mercurial individuals with a ton of money, power, and face-time with the world, where they usually push to stay mysterious, close to the vest, or as vague as possible, this one is exactly as it seems. What’s that mean?

Take this quote from a recent ESPN report on the topic. It’s a few details and then a quote that comes from Love’s agent.

"Five-time All-Star forward Kevin Love has no interest in negotiating a buyout on the two years and $60 million left on his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, his agent, Jeff Schwartz of Excel Sports, told ESPN on Saturday.“There have been no talks with Cleveland on a buyout, nor is there any interest from Kevin in doing a buyout,” Schwartz told ESPN."

Small but powerful. Simple but directly to the point.

The Miami Heat could stand to add another piece, perhaps a Kevin Love? That’s, if he can ever find his way out of Cleveland, but will he?

The what is the part that’s the headline and the quote, the fact that he isn’t looking for a buyout but the why, is in the details prior to the quote. The man wants all… or the majority of the remaining $60 million dollars that he originally signed up for.

And honestly, can you blame him? When you consider the fact that he is coming down the back-end of his career and his major earning days are over (Blake Griffin in example), he wants to get all that he has earned.

The fact that he was given that deal means he earned it, at some point and enough so to merit the deal in the first place. For a recent example of what he can still do though, he was a member of Team USA for just a bit.

He left early on though. While nothing directly can really be taken from that, the whole instance or thought of not being able to still cut it isn’t the last thing you want to leave on tape before possibly, leaving your current situation to seek a new one.

The money is a huge part of it though, the most of it, to again reiterate that. The fact that he might want to get his basketball sea legs back up under him in a less-pressurized scenario like Cleveland’s before making a move might be in play too.

Either way, it doesn’t seem like it’ll be before the NBA deadline season before he leaves, if then. And there are about 60 million reasons why, at least.
