Players who might not finish the season with the Miami Heat: Dewayne Dedmon

Dewayne Dedmon signed with the Miami Heat in the middle of last year and played super well. He played so well that they decided to bring him back on a one-year deal.

Unlike the other players on this list, Dedmon’s place on the Heat is not completely in his control. The main reason he could end up elsewhere is because of how good his competition is.

When they signed him, the clear plan was for Dedmon to be the backup center. His main purpose would be to give Bam Adebayo some much-needed rest, and he has said that himself.

However, another center burst onto the scene this summer. Omer Yurtseven played so well in Summer League that the Miami Heat signed him to a two-year contract.

The 7-0 big man is an offensive beast who can stretch the floor super well. The best part is, at only 23 years old, he still has a ton of room to grow.

If Yurtseven ends up impressing enough, he could take over as the primary backup center. In that case, the Heat may not have an immediate need for Dedmon.

Obviously, it’s nice to have center depth, but if there are better players available on the buyout market and Yurtseven is playing well, Dedmon could get waived.

It’s somewhat unlikely, but it’s impossible to know how well Yurtseven will play. Only time will tell, but Dedmon may not finish the season in South Beach.
