Ranking NBA starting point guards to see where the Miami Heat land

5. Trae Young, Atlanta Hawks

Trae Young cemented himself as one of the best point guards in the NBA last season. He helped lead the Atlanta Hawks on an improbable playoff run to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Now, Young will try to replicate that success this year in an Eastern Conference with even more talent. He should be in All-NBA conversations this season.

4. Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn Nets

Some outlets list James Harden as the point guard, but Kyrie Irving has been playing that position for his entire career. He had a phenomenal season last year when he was able to stay on the court.

He joined the elusive 50-40-90 club last year but ended up getting injured in the playoffs. He, Harden, and Kevin Durant are hoping for vengeance this season in the form of an NBA title.

3. Damian Lillard, Portland Trailblazers

Despite the rumors, Damian Lillard will open up the season in Portland this year. That is all subject to change, though, if the Trailblazers struggle to start the year.

Lillard is one of the best point guards in the game and arguably the most clutch player in this generation of players. His situation in Portland will be one to monitor very closely this season.

2. Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks

Luka Doncic’s rise to stardom came quicker than most expected. He is one of the best players in the league and will be for the next decade.

He put up incredible numbers in the playoffs last year, but the Mavs were unable to get the job done. This season, Doncic will be looking for more, as Dallas made some small moves to improve this offseason.

1. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

The Warriors may have missed the playoffs last season, but Stephen Curry still ended up finishing third in MVP voting. That should indicate just how dominant he is.

Next. 3 unexpected trades to consider at the deadline. dark

With Klay Thompson back on the court, the Warriors should be one of the top teams in the West. Curry has a legitimate shot at bringing home a third MVP trophy this season and leading Golden State on a title run.
