It’s quite possible that the Hornets would have taken James Wiseman if he fell to them, but that would not have been the right pick. Instead, the Hornets take a different point guard in Tyrese Haliburton.

Charlotte loses out on LaMelo Ball, but Haliburton is not a bad replacement by any means. He had a phenomenal rookie season when he wasn’t dealing with injuries.

Drafting Wiseman would have helped solve their issues at center, but when you pick this high in the draft, you have to go with the best available player on the board.

Haliburton would have played a massive role in Charlotte once he won the starting job. He has solid size and could play either the one or the two alongside Terry Rozier.

He might not have the superstar potential like Ball does, but he’s still a great pick. Charlotte sticks with a guard at number three, but it’s not the one they may have hoped for.
