Ways Duncan Robinson can improve this season for the Miami Heat: Getting to the free-throw line

For the past two seasons of his career, Duncan Robinson has only averaged around one free throw attempt per game. With how good of a shooter he is, getting that number up would help a ton.

Last year, Robinson shot only 82.7% from the line, but he shot 93.1% the year prior. These numbers vary so much simply because he doesn’t actually take many free throws.

The thing is, that’s just never been a part of Robinson’s game. Even going back to his days at Michigan, the most free throws per game he ever attempted was 1.6.

However, if he were to get to the line more, that would automatically add a few points to his totals. He could legitimately be a 90% free-throw shooter for the Miami Heat.

In order to do this, Robinson has two options. He could either get better at driving to the basket and drawing contact, or he could try to draw more fouls from behind the three-point line.

Now, while the second one may seem like the obvious choice, the NBA has recently put some rules into place so drawing shooting fouls is harder. However, if Robinson can perfect that craft, he could start taking a ton of free throws each game.

If Robinson can even get to the line a couple more times per game, that would be around four more points on the board for the Heat. Every little bit counts in the NBA.
