Miami Heat: It’s Not Ideal, But They’ll Be Fine With Kyle Until Their Whole

This situation came late in the fourth quarter and with Miami leading Milwaukee, 107-101, with less than a minute remaining. Lowry found a blow-by-opportunity against Jrue Holiday, before he fumbled the ball, as Giannis Antetokounmpo rotated over.

Lowry would then redeem himself by immediately coming away with a steal that led to an exclamation dunk from Martin.

In this case though, almost no player should be taking an elite defender, especially of Holiday’s stature, in isolation during the game’s closing moments. The Heat were managing a sizable lead and needed a basket to seal the game.

Lowry should be operating in a Pick and Roll setting with a high-screener in place here. However, much of this has come through the expense of it being Lowry’s first season in Miami, as he’s continued to acclimate himself into a new system.

The Kyle Chaos is authentic and all of its extremities have unfolded a little quicker than most would’ve predicted. Although at this point of his 15-year career, there isn’t much that Lowry hasn’t seen in the NBA.

Having played through extended periods without key teammates is more of the norm for him and on Wednesday, he embraced a role where the offensive burden had completely circled back to him. That’s where we’ll continue seeing him in the near future– temporarily.

It isn’t entirely on Kyle to determine whether Miami will win games or not, he just has to guide them there without two of his other All-Star caliber teammates. As a tone-setter though, the offensive burden does fall on Kyle Lowry’s shoulders there, which has opened a world of challenges and obstacles for the veteran guard.

The Heat will host their final game at FTX arena versus Chicago on Saturday, before playing 11 of their next 15 games on the road. It’s worth adding that Lowry’s minutes and playing time should still be monitored, as he holds the most minutes played with Miami heading towards yet another difficult road stretch.

When he’s in there though, it shouldn’t be an issue if he continues to play with the focus and attentiveness that made him an NBA champion. That— and an all-time great floor general.

Yea. That’ll work.
