Miami Heat: John Collins Still Not The Best Idea, But Not The Worst Either

First, the Heat already have Bam Adebayo. The two are relatively similar players, with the steep edge going to Bam defensively.

It is possible for them to play together as long as Collins spaces the floor, but the Heat don’t really need that. It would be more beneficial for the Heat to work on developing Adebayo as an effective scorer.

The Atlanta Hawks have paired Collins with Clint Capella in their front court. The two worked pretty well together on the court, but what is more interesting is how they played when Capella was off the floor.

In this particular situation, John Collins moved to the center spot. Generally, the offensive efficiency increased while the defense took a hit.

It could be helpful to find a way to generate more offense if a player like Bam is struggling. However, taking Bam out to continue to play small is largely counterproductive.
