Miami Heat: There Are Far Better Options Than Kyrie Irving Or John Wall Were

NBA Champion and All-Star point guard, Kyrie Irving (there, I mentioned his accolades, so now he won’t tweet at me), seemed to once again be on the prowl for a change of scenery following three seasons on the Brooklyn Nets.

Now, it appears Irving is going to stick it out with the Nets, although some still report there is interest from the Los Angeles Lakers in acquiring the problematic guard. Wherever he plays, the proof is in the playtime.

A lot is being made of a player who cannot stay on the court for one reason or another.

When he is lacing them up, Irving is, perhaps, the best ballhandler in NBA history and one of the best guards below the basket.

But Irving only played 103 regular-season games over the past three years, playing just over 1,000 minutes in the entirety of last season (Jayson Tatum played 983 minutes in just the playoffs).

The last time Irving played over 70 games was in the 2016-2017 season. And while some of the missed time can be traced back to injury, the time missed voluntarily is even more concerning.

Irving has made one thing very clear during his career— He will do exactly what he wants and that is not always going to put basketball or the team first. It’s tough to anchor your boat to that.
