Miami Heat: What Do ‘Bonus Wins’ Really Mean For Gabe Vincent’s Team?
This is all a very nerdy way of saying that Gabe Vincent’s improvement works twofold. First, we want him to succeed and find a way to be a talented guard for this team, possibly even the starter.
But secondly, if his improvement remains on an upward trajectory this season, he gives the team flexibility to fill other gaps in the roster. What bonus wins takes into account is the market efficiency of the players— it’s basically Moneyball.
It’s not totally out of bounds to think that Vincent can’t bump his estimated wins to a five, minimum and while he’ll still only be paid for 0.5. With his contract, that would be astounding and assuredly earn him a much bigger one the following year.
His growth plugs the holes in this team’s potential playmaking but helps lessen the holes that Pat Riley and the crew may need to fill. It’s not a guarantee that the team will find a way to fix every problem, but it is a fortunate circumstance to be in if a player becomes available for trade or on the buyout market.
Ideally, if Vincent can make a leap, he could be a guy to land among the most bonus wins in the league. That’s what really makes this his most important stat heading into the year.
