Miami Heat: Boston’s Blake Griffin Signing Sees Another PF Off The Table
Once a perennial All-Star and franchise centerpiece with the Los Angeles Clippers, injuries have derailed Griffin’s career, forcing him to play more of a complimentary role with the Brooklyn Nets. However, for a player of Griffin’s caliber to be acquired on a one-year minimum deal seems to scream “another missed opportunity” for the Heat.
Griffin’s fit with Miami would’ve added another source of versatility, a prevalent theme for Erik Spoelstra-led groups.
While his role, touches, and playing time have all decreased significantly in the last couple of years, this is a player who would’ve given them valuable production as a ball-handler, rebounder, and a willing floor spacer.
It’s only been a year since Blake was holding down a critical role for a championship-caliber franchise. While he was never slated to be a large scoring option with Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving around, Griffin was a huge contributor in the 2021 playoffs.
He had five games where he reached double-figure scoring and had an 18-point and 14 rebound performance in Game 1 of the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals. The Nets would defeat the Milwaukee Bucks in that contest, 115-107.
