Miami Heat: Should Tyler Herro Be The Starting Shooting Guard? – Noah’s Take
Should Tyler Herro be the starter?
Noah’s Take – No, Max Strus Should Be The Starter
Max Strus should be the starting shooting guard for the Miami Heat for 2022-23. One of the reasons for this is that it allows him to operate with the other four starters.
We know three of the starters are going to be Kyle Lowry, Jimmy Butler, and Bam Adebayo. We also believe the role of the starting power forward will be in good hands with Caleb Martin.
Strus provides the balance for the lineup. Last season, he proved that he is an elite three-point threat.
With players like Butler and Adebayo in the lineup, who aren’t known for their three-point shooting, Strus’ marksmanship is critical.
He has also earned the spot by stepping up in big moments throughout last season and during his first true playoff appearance. Tyler Herro is the only other reasonable candidate at this point to have the starting spot.
While Herro could be an effective starter, it would benefit the Heat more if he were coming off the bench. If Herro plays for the Miami Heat long enough, he will become a starter.
For now, it makes more sense for the Heat to maximize their All-Star’s strengths by spacing the floor with Strus. Once Herro comes in, he can continue the offense through his scoring.
If Herro was not coming off the bench, the Heat might struggle with occasional scoring droughts. Either player could be effective as a starter, but the best pick for the Heat right now is Strus for the above-referenced reasons.
