Bam Adebayo Two-Way Excellence Means Great Things For Him And Miami Heat

His usual offensive approach, being more crafty, athletic, explosive, and skilled than the opposing big, while his size allows him to operate in areas where guys of those features typically don’t, doesn’t work against those kinds of guys.

He went right at the bigger guy and that’s what you have to do.

When their size allows them to have the advantage by being able to cheat, sort of, by playing off of him to negate his perimeter-ish ability as a big while they already have a step back on him, so to speak, to guard the rim on his drive, you have to close that space.

That’s the same space that Bam usually takes advantage of against the average big in today’s NBA, a guy of similar, slightly smaller, or slightly bigger stature than him. By going right at the bigger defender, you actually turn their size and physicality into a negative on them, forcing them to actually foul you more—or simply allow you to do certain things for the threat of foul.

That’s what Bam Adebayo did on Thursday night and it was a beautiful thing to behold.

If he can keep up this pace, he should surely be in contention for many individual accolades as the season progresses but most importantly, hell give his team just as good a chance as any other team to be right there in the mix when it’s all said and done.
