3 Reasons Goran Dragić Won’t Return To The Miami Heat

The Miami Heat players in question would be Haywood Highsmith, Omer Yurtseven, and Udonis Haslem. Orlando Robinson and Jamal Cain do not count for this exercise or situation, as they’re on two-way deals, meaning they’re not officially on the roster for these purposes of creating “space”.

To get right to it, everyone knows that Miami isn’t cutting ties with Haslem. It’s his last season and what an awful look it would be for them to waive him.

It’d never happen though, so the OG is safe.

Haywood Highsmith is interesting, as they have him on a three-year deal, so it wouldn’t make sense to waive him.

Contract talks aside, what would happen if, knock on wood, Victor Oladipo or Caleb Martin goes down, and Highsmith isn’t available?

While his offense is very hit or mostly miss, he’s an excellent defender and fills up the lanes quite well. That means that a Highsmith removal doesn’t make sense either.

That also means that Yurtseven is the odd man out, as he’s a restricted free agent this offseason, and he’s been battling injuries. Whether Miami plans to bring him back is the big question though.

Letting Yurt walk for nothing is definitely a worry, but if someone were to walk to make room for a Dragić, it should be Yurt. But that brings in the next concern.

Is it worth it?
