Free agent targets for the Miami Heat after the 2023 NBA Draft

3. TJ Warren

Antecedent to the Heat’s inspiring postseason run was a rather stale regular season which saw them finish dead last in points per game and a meager 25th in offensive rating. Complete turnarounds aside, the team has to re-emphasize the importance of turning it up right from the get-go next season. And considering the team’s current profile, it’s clear that they need an infusion of offensive punch.

TJ Warren, most notable for Miami fans as a part of those pesky Pacers teams (and Jimmy Butler’s nemesis), was clearly rusty last season coming off a near two-year absence. He often looked out of rhythm, failing to truly build momentum in a minimal role for Brooklyn and Phoenix.

Be that as it may, for the minimum, the Heat should at least test the waters with Warren.

Perhaps still capable of being a prolific scorer, Warren is most lethal in a free-flowing offense where he can pick his spots and put the ball into the basket with ease. Given his history and underwhelming 2022-23 campaign, Warren is most likely looking at signing a prove-it deal this summer. It may look ugly at the start, but when all the right buttons click, the rewards should easily outweigh the risk.
