The Cavaliers are the hottest team in the league, in large part due to Donovan Mitchell’s MVP-caliber play. Speculating about his future would be unfair to him and the surging Cavs…

… and yet that’s exactly what we’re doing.

The overwhelming sentiment across the league is that Mitchell is leaving Cleveland when he can become a free agent in 2025. If the Cavs get the same indication, they could opt to trade him while he’s still under contract for a season.

The Heat tried to trade for Mitchell before and would likely be involved again. Their biggest competition for Mitchell’s services would be the Knicks, Nets and Lakers. Mitchell’s interest in playing in New York is well-known, and the Lakers are seeking a star guard to help LeBron and Anthony Davis compete for another title.

But the Heat will be heard from if the Cavaliers are taking calls. Mitchell’s close relationship with Bam Adebayo could help Miami’s case. Plus, are we sure Mitchell would want to join a Nets roster that still needs work? Are the Knicks that interested in pairing Mitchell with Jalen Brunson?

There’s no doubt that the Heat would go all-in for Mitchell, and that could be enough.
