KJ Martin
There’s a chance that this is the last season in Miami for both Caleb Martin and Haywood Highsmith (a restricted free agent) and, if that’s the case, the Heat could be in need of forward depth.
KJ Martin has the qualities of a Heat favorite: Athletic, willing to hustle and plays bigger than his size. At 6-foot-6, 215, Martin has played 39% of his minutes at power forward, according to basketball-reference. He’s similar to Caleb Martin in that way, but will demand less money as a free agent.
At 23, he’s also cheaper than Caleb and can develop in the Heat’s system after stints in Houston and Philadelphia.
There’s something to work with here. KJ is a 33.6% 3-point shooter for his career and is coming off an impressive 2022-23 campaign in which he averaged 12.7 points and 5.5 rebounds on 56.9% shooting overall in 28 minutes per game.
Other forwards who could make Miami’s list include Nic Batum, Robert Covington and Jae’Sean Tate.
