So…uh…What Exactly Happened On That Tony Parker Shot?

So here’s the thing, Kawhi Leonard’s positioning (or lack thereof) kinda screwed the Spurs over.  Because Kawhi has basically stayed on the right baseline as if he’s been crazy-glued there, and Tony Parker was driving exactly to the — you guessed it — the right baseline, Kawhi has invariably led Tony Parker into a LeBron James — Chris Bosh double team.

The other thing here is that Ray Allen is about half-a-mile away (ok, so it’s more like 10 feet away) from Danny Green.  Allen’s so far away from Danny Green because he’s doubling Tim Duncan and preventing a Tony Parker dump-off to Timmy for an easy layup or jump hook.  This is a calculated risk of sorts — Allen and the Heat are basically saying that with 4.7 seconds left on the shot clock, and with Tony Parker essentially running straight into a double team, there’s no way that

1.  Tony Parker realizes that Danny Green is wiiiiiddddddeeeeeee open.

2.  Can actually pass the ball to Danny Green.

3.  And that Danny Green can hit the three.

in 4.7 seconds.
